“ . . . you can look to nature as a teacher; . . . anything that’s happening out there can happen in us. [laughs] And we can coexist, and we can be symbiotic, and we can collaborate.”

What might we learn from the transformative evolution of butterflies in a time of climate catastrophe? The US theatre artist and educator Beth Osnes has developed The Butterfly Affect – an immersive performance experience which neatly splices the idea of the ‘butterfly effect’ (small trivial events / actions resulting in something with greater consequence) with the word ‘affect’ – embodied feeling.

The Butterfly Affect is a guided experience to travel through a butterfly’s transformation from egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, to butterfly. Gently embodying each stage of a butterfly’s metamorphosis through costumes, meditative support and rich sound environments The Butterfly Affect expands perspectives, insights, ideas, and feelings. Join us for an invitation to explore our own potential for transition and transformation, with the butterfly as guide. How might radical change be embodied to forge an equitable, survivable, and thrive-able future for all? What if we already have within us all that we need to be the change we yearn for? Reflect, dream, imagine with a Monarch, Blue Morpho, or Western Tiger Swallowtail butterflies.
